During your sightseeing boat trip around Trincomalee, the grand statue of Lord Shiva is a popular stop. This statue is part of the Koneswaram Temple, an ancient temple that offers a divine view overlooking the natural harbour. Here, you can learn about its historical significance and time-proof architecture.
This statue is housed by the Koneswaram Temple, which is a classical-medieval complex in the Eastern Province city of Trincomalee. The original temple is claimed by some to have been the greatest building of its age, for both its architecture and its ornamentation. Remnants of the same were found by photographer Mike Wilson and science-fiction author, Arthur C Clarke in 1956. Even though it has lost most of its grandeur and original glory, it’s still an awe-inspiring place with breathtaking views.
